SOUNDWITHAVIEW

What happens to the perception of our environment, when the tangible feeling of sound merges with the view of a site?

To view means to have the ability to see something or to be seen from a particular place. Similarly, a view can also be a sound source that can be taken in by the ear from a particular place. Taking the idea of sound as a framing device, that can alter and change the experience of viewing, we ask: How does what one sees outside of themselves become an internal experience when sound is introduced as part of the viewing?

Sound With a View are soundworks made for Kulturnatt Stockholm 2021. The work is based on three sites in the south of Stockholm. The sites, named Over, Floating, and Under and are chosen with a specific interest in non-spaces; sites that are overlooked and considered with less of a relational and historical definition or identity.

Our ultimate aim is for people to experience the works in situ. By following the coordinates, the sites can be visited and experienced physically for a more immersive and poignant experience. In this online experience, the soundworks are added to a representation of the sites, thus creating a virtual simulation.

The works are best experienced with headphones.
